MISSING DIVER RECOVERED FROM SEABED

Clyde Coastguard was contacted at 11:00 a.m on 20 February 2001 by Strathclyde Police who informed them of a missing diver near Girvan, Ayrshire. The missing person's vehicle was located near Woodland Bay and had been there since yesterday.

Coastguard Rescue Teams from Girvan, Ballantrae and Ayr were immediately dispatched to the scene, the RNLI lifeboat from Girvan and a Royal Navy Rescue Helicopter from Prestwick also attended the scene upon request, along with a Police helicopter from Strathclyde.

John Griffiths, District Controller at Clyde Coastguard said, "A body of a diver has since been recovered from the seabed and landed ashore to the Strathclyde Police."

The man has been named as Charles Alexander, 59, of Kilmarnock.
