FISHING VESSEL SUFFERED ENGINE FAILURE

Aberdeen Coastguard were contacted at 2.30 a.m. on 21 February 2001 by the Kirkwall registered fishing vessel ‘Keila’ who reported they had suffered an engine failure and required assistance.

The ‘Keila’ (K121) a 27 metre-fishing vessel with 5 crew on board broke down off Strathy Point, 10 miles west of the Pentland Firth.

The Coastguard was about to launch the Thurso lifeboat when the nearby Peterhead registered fishing vessel ‘Sundari’ offered a tow to nearby Scrabster.

Both vessels arrived safely at the port of Scrabster at 9.00 a.m. this morning.
