Scotland & NI 119/01 6 March 2001 SEARCH CONTINUES FOR MISSING FISHERMEN Clyde Coastguard are continuing to search for four crew members still missing after their fishing trawler went down approximately 240 miles west of Tiree in 15ft seas. Rescuers searching for the crew in the Atlantic have found two bodies, less than an hour after the search team found another man alive having survived more than 12 hours in the icy water. A spokesman for Clyde Coastguard, co-ordinating the rescue, said: "One of the vessels searching found two bodies close to where the survivor was spotted. "The hopes of rescuers had earlier been lifted after finding the survivor alive at around 12.15pm. "He was spotted by the crew of a Nimrod aircraft from RAF Kinloss and a life raft was dropped to him before he was picked up from the water". The alarm was first raised last night when the German-registered ‘Hansa’ sent a distress signal 240 miles west of Tiree in the Western Isles. |
