COASTAL SEARCH FOR PERSON IN WATER

Forth Coastguard was alerted by Fife Constabulary at approx 01.30 hrs on Sunday 6th May 2001 to a possible person in the water at Crail Harbour, Fife.

Coastguard called out the Initial Response team (IRT) from St Andrews Coastguard, by pager.

The (IRT) arrived on scene and began an immediate search of the area, supported within a few minutes by Anstruther Lifeboat which conducting a systematic search just offshore. The coastguard teams searching the foreshore, waterline, and cliffs.

By 04.00 hrs with nothing was found and the search was stood down. It was expected that the search would recommence around Low Water at 08.00 hrs.

At approx 07.30 hrs the pagers again went off, this time a full callout, both IRT and Back-Up Response Teams (BURT’s), were called out, this was for a follow up search of the area as no further information on the possible person in the water had been discovered by Fife Constabulary.

This search was conducted at low water to give the maximum coverage of the area, again supported by Anstruther Lifeboat for the offshore part of the search. Two search teams conducted a complete search of the foreshore between the high and low water marks over two miles of rocky coastline, by 12.00 hrs the teams had been stood down with nothing found, and had returned to Station
