FISHERMAN AIRLIFTED TO HOSPITAL

Clyde Coastguard were contacted at around 2.30 pm on 2 June 2001 after a 45-year-old fisherman became unwell on board his Kirkcaldy registered fishing vessel, 'Guess Again'.

The man had been fishing with a colleague near Loch Sunart.

Coastguards put the crew of the vessel in touch with a doctor at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary who advised evacuation. The Coastguard requested the Rescue Helicopter 177 from RNAS Prestwick to scramble and the man was airlifted from his vessel and taken to the Lorne and Islands Hospital in Oban.

The Oban Coastguard Rescue Team prepared the landing site for the helicopter.

Davy Thompson, Watch Manager for Clyde Coastguard said, "The seas were quite rough on scene with northerly force 6-7 winds. We were pleased to assist with this incident and would like to wish the fisherman a full and speedy recovery."
