SIX RESCUED FROM SINKING TRAWLER

Aberdeen Coastguard were contacted on 30 June 2001 at 2.15am by the crew of the wooden-hulled ‘Constant Faith’ after their trawler began taking in water 80 miles off the north east coast of Scotland.

Six crew members were rescued by a second vessel, the Fraserburgh-registered Conquest, that came alongside and took four crew members from the stricken boat on board.

Two other men remained with the trawler to receive pumps, which were handed over by coastguards via a helicopter.

However, they abandoned the boat shortly before it began sinking at around 0600 and were also taken on board the Conquest.

The crew was being taken back to port at Fraserburgh.
