FISHING BOAT CAPSIZES

Aberdeen Coastguard were contacted on 18 August 2001 after a 25-feet long Orkney long liner got into difficulty on their way back to harbour.

Another vessel returning to Fraserburgh harbour in Aberdeenshire spotted a man clinging to the hull of his upturned boat.

Coastguard requested the launch of the Fraserburgh lifeboat, which eventually discovered another man after his cries for help were heard.

It is believed he had spent more than hour in the freezing water and both men were taken to Fraserburgh Hospital, where they were treated for hypothermia.

A spokesman for the Aberdeen Coastguard said: "Both men were very lucky another boat had spotted theirs on its way into the harbour".
