MISSING MAN FOUND AFTER OVERNIGHT SEARCH

Clyde Coastguard has been co-ordinating an overnight search for a 51-year-old man, who has been found cold but otherwise well.

The search involving three lifeboats, two rescue helicopters, five Coastguard Rescue Teams and several local fishing vessels resulted in the Tobermory Lifeboat finding him and his boat at Calgary Bay to the north of the Island of Mull, at 6.30 am on 29 August 2001.

The man left Ulva near the Island of Mull on 28 August 2001 at 9.00 pm bound for the Island of Coll on board his 17ft dory, a flat bottomed open boat with an outboard engine. He was expected to arrive around an hour and a half later but by midnight there was concern locally and the Coastguard were called.
