LIFEBOAT DELIVERY

Clyde Coastguard requested the launch of the Oban Lifeboat after it received a call from Mull at 0340 BST on Thursday 13 September 2001 when a woman went into labour.

The lifeboat was taking the woman to hospital on the Scottish mainland when the mother went into labour and a baby girl made a dramatic arrival at 0620 just before they reached Oban.

The birth was the second on board the lifeboat, which was also transformed into a floating delivery room three years ago for the arrival of another baby girl.

A Coastguard spokesperson said: "When we were called it was getting to the stage when birth was imminent and so we took a midwife with us."

The Mother and baby were then taken to hospital by ambulance and are both fine.
