COASTGUARD ASSIST VESSEL THAT RAN AGROUND

Shetland Coastguard received an urgent call at just after 6.00 p.m. on 5 December 2001 from the fishing vessel `Quantas LK 211'.

The vessel with 1 person on board had run aground on Lunna Holm, at the southern end of Colgrave Sound, which runs between Shetland mainland and the Island of Yell.

Coastguard requested the immediate launch of the Lerwick lifeboat, which stood by the vessel until she was able to refloat. Another vessel, the inter-island ferry `Filla' responded to the initial emergency call and stood by the ‘Quantas' until the lifeboat arrived.

Sandy Wylie, Shetland Coastguard Watch Manager said: "The lifeboat is now on scene and the skipper has remained on board. The lifeboat crew are currently examining the vessel to ensure that it can be towed off before the next high water. There are no signs of any pollution. Conditions for this operation are currently good with calm seas, force 3 winds and good visibility."
