Southern 066/00 21 December 2000 'FAR SKY' TOWS VESSEL TO FALMOUTH Falmouth Coastguard picked up a communication at 7:42 a.m. on 21 December 2000 from the cargo vessel ‘Jens R’, after the Master issued a general communications warning that the vessel had lost all engine power off Lands End. Coastguard immediately made contact with the 1960 gt vessel, which was preparing to anchor until such time as repairs could be made. However, Falmouth Coastguard considered the vessel, which was within 3 miles of Lands End Cliff, would be unable to safely anchor whilst sitting in a 60-metre depth of water and overhead of major telephone cabling. Falmouth Coastguard strongly recommended that the Master of the Antiguan and Barbudan registered general vessel should accept a tow from the Coastguard Emergency Towing Vessel (ETV) ‘Far Sky’ ‘Far Sky’ arrived on scene and the ‘Jens R’ owned by German based Bockst Iegel accepted a tow to Falmouth. . |
