BODY RECOVERED FROM WATER AT NAVAL BASE

Coastguards, firefighters and dockyard staff conducted a full-scale search for a man who it is thought slipped, banged his head and fell into the water at the Devonport Royal Naval base in Plymouth.

After the search ended without success a Devon and Cornwall police diving team was brought in and the body of a man, which has not yet been identified, was pulled from the water.

The man who was accompanied by another was walking along Wharf 16 at Devonport naval base when they hopped over a barrier to avoid oncoming traffic.

The incident is being treated as a suspicious death and will be investigated by Ministry of Defence police.
