LANDMINE WASHED UP ON BEACH

A live World War 2 landmine has been found on a beach on 7 April 2001.

A female rambler discovered the anti-tank device at Torcross, near Dartmouth, Devon.

She alerted police, who cleared the beach.

Experts from the explosives disposal unit are detonating it later today.

Andy Huber, from Brixham coastguard, said: "We do get live ammunition washed up on the beach quite often as it used to be a training ground for D-Day landings.

"The device was moved to another cove where it was being detonated safely."

Inspector Paul Northcott, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said there had been no danger to the public.
