CANOEISTS RESCUE MAN FROM SEA

Dover Coastguard was alerted to a man in trouble out at sea off St Leonards on 26 June 2001.

The incident happened around 9pm off the coast by the Royal Victoria Hotel

Coastguard’s requested the launch of a lifeboat, but by the time it was mobilised two people out in their canoes had pulled the man from the sea.

Dover coastguard said the rescued man, who has not been identified, appeared to have taken some pills and could not speak when he was rescued. They said it might have been a suicide attempt.

The man was taken by ambulance to Conquest Hospital.
