CLIMBER RESCUED AFTER CLIFF FALL

Land's End Coastguard cliff rescue team went to the aid of a 44-year-old man on 10 July 2001 who suffered serious injuries after falling 50ft down a cliff near Land's End.

The man is thought to have dropped 25ft, bounced on a ledge and then fell the same distance again on to a granite slab.

It is thought the climber was tackling the challenging Demo Route at Sennen Cove that is graded hard-severe and features an overhang known as "the nose".

It is assumed he had a problem with his equipment.

The casualty was flown to the Royal Cornwall Hospital near Truro in a Royal Navy rescue helicopter.

The man suffered broken bones and head injuries, but his condition is not thought to be life threatening.
