YACHTSMAN DIES AFTER HEART ATTACK

Coastguard received a Mayday call on 14 July 2001 after a yachtsman suffered a massive heart attack while out sailing on his yacht 12 miles off the Brighton coast just before 3pm.

Derek Parkinson, 62, and his wife Veronica were enjoying a day out on their yacht ‘Aletta’ when tragedy struck.

A coastguard helicopter and a lifeboat from Brighton responded to the call and the couple were airlifted to the Royal Sussex Hospital. Mr Parkinson later died in hospital from the heart attack.

Their yacht ‘Aletta’ was towed back into a Brighton marina by the lifeboat.

The couple, which live at Little Green, Alverstoke, were both retired and have a son.
