FALMOUTH COASTGUARD ALERTED TO CLIFF FALLER

Falmouth Coastguard was alerted to a seriously injured climber at Bosigran near Lands End following a 999 call at 14:38 hrs on 19 July 2001.

Coastguard Rescue Teams from St Just and Penzance were immediately sent to the area and a Royal Naval rescue helicopter R193 was scrambled from RNAS Culdrose. Coastguard Sector Manager Mike North from Lands End also attended the scene.

A Naval doctor was dispatched with the helicopter and a Naval diver was lowered onto a ledge 150 feet below the cliff top with the fallen climber.

It appears that two climbers fell, one of which is `walking wounded’ the other is more seriously hurt.

Simon Rabett, Falmouth Coastguard watch Manager said, " The Coastguard Rescue teams and the Navy personnel are working extremely well together to secure the two climbers and get them to hospital as quickly as possible".

Once prepared the casualties will be flown to Treliske hospital.
