SPEEDBOAT COLLISION OFF ISLE OF WIGHT

Solent Coastguard received a 999 call at 8:30 p.m. on 29 July 2001 from one of a party on board a speedboat saying they had been in collision with another speedboat off Fishbourne, Isle of Wight.

Coastguard was informed that there were seven people involved, two of which had sustained serious injuries and that urgent medial attention was needed.

Coastguard rescue helicopter 'India Juliet' from Lee on Solent was scrambled and Gosport Rescue 1 and 3 were tasked to the scene with paramedics on board who administered first aid and prepared the first injured female to be airlifted to Queen Alexander Hospital.

The rescue helicopter returned to the scene with a Doctor from Queen Alexander on board, as the second injured female needed medical attention prior to being moved.

The remaining five people from the two craft, including one child was taken to the Gosport Rescue base and from there on to Queen Alexander Hospital.

Portsmouth Coastguard Rescue Team and the ambulance service attended the incident assisting at the helicopter-landing pad.
