INJURED YACHTSMAN AIRLIFTED

Solent Coastguard coordinated the airlift of an injured yachtsman from the deck of a boat in the Solent on 7 August 2001.

Coastguard scrambled the Coastguard rescue helicopter from Lee-on-the-Solent after Barry Gore, the skipper of the yacht, ‘Sigmamadrigal’, raised the alarm when a crew member was hit on the head by the boat's boom.

After being airlifted from the boat the helicopter took the crew member to St Mary's Hospital in Newport on the Isle of Wight for treatment in the accident department before being discharged.
