SEVEN YEAR OLD DIES IN HARBOUR FALL

Solent Coastguard was alerted to a seven-year-old boy that had been playing with his grandfather, 11-year-old brother and a 15-year-old friend when he is believed to have fallen into the water.

The group was playing at Prinstead Point, on Thorney Island, in Chichester Harbour and the grandfather raised the alarm when he realised one of the children was missing.

Solent coastguard launched a lifeboat and rescue helicopter and discovered the boy at the top of Chichester Harbour near to where he had been playing.

He was later pronounced dead at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.

Sussex police said the boy, from Dorset, was with his family on holiday in the Southbourne area when the accident happened.

Coastguards also rescued the 11-year-old child from mudflats at the harbour and airlifted him to hospital suffering from suspected hypothermia.

A fourth boy, belonging to the same family, was also taken to hospital suffering shock.
