Southern 143/01 25 August 2001 SAILOR TIED UP AFTER ON-BOARD STABBING Dover Coastguard was contacted after a Dutch sailor was tied up on the deck of his boat by fellow crew members after allegedly stabbing a 39-year-old Belgian man in the stomach. The Dutch-registered vessel the ‘Hansa Lubeck’ was nine miles south of Dover when the incident occurred. After holding the alleged attacker, who police said was suffering from the effects of alcohol, the general cargo vessel made its way to Dover where the coastguard was called. Coastguards requested the launch of a lifeboat that was sent to pick up the 19-year-old Dutch man and the victim both were taken to hospital. The victim required an operation on his stomach at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford while the alleged attacker was treated for the effects of alcohol. The 19-year-old has been arrested. The cargo vessel was en route from Antwerp to Portugal when the incident occurred |
