999 CALL FROM CLIFF JUMPER
| Coastguards
dispatched a cliff rescue team to Beachy Head after a man
intending to commit suicide changed his mind after landing on a
ledge and dialled 999 from his mobile phone on 5 October 2001.
A winchman was sent down to raise the panicking man, whose
fingernails had snapped off as he tried to scramble back to
safety during the 25-minute incident, which occurred at the
notorious suicide spot known locally as Sugar Loaf. |
