COASTGUARDS RECOVER CLIFF FALLER

Coastguards, earlier this week were alerted to an injured man by a couple walking on the cliff path that leads from Countisbury Hill to Sillery Sands in North Devon.

A team of nine coastguards recovered the casualty, a man, who was suffering from concussion and hypothermia.

The team found that the man had been on the cliffs all night and was suffering from mild hypothermia, concussion, possible fractures to one arm and an ankle, as well as numerous cuts and bruises.

The coastguards and a paramedic team treated the man before being carried to the top of the hill by coastguards after it was considered too unsafe to winch him straight from the cliff into a rescue helicopter because of strong winds.

The injured man, thought to be from the Bristol area, was then transferred to hospital by helicopter.
