MAN WASHED OUT TO SEA RESCUED

Milford Haven Coastguard

Milford Haven coastguard was alerted to a 21-year-old man who was washed out to sea after becoming trapped on rocks while out for a walk.

The RAF rescue helicopter from RAF Chivenor in Devon was scrambled and a coastguard rescue team and inshore rescue boat were sent after the alarm was raised at about 6.20pm on 29 December 2000.

A spokesman for the coastguards said that the casualty was located in the water off St Anthony's Well, Llanstephan, and airlifted to Morriston Hospital in Swansea where his condition was described as "serious".

Coastguards from Milford Haven said the man was out walking when he became trapped on rocks between Wharley Point and Llanstephan, west Wales.

He phoned a friend for help on his mobile that immediately contacted the coastguard.

Watch Manager at Milford Haven Coastguard Nigel Porter said, "At the present time the young man is in a serious condition in intensive care, we all hope he makes a good recovery.

"It is difficult to know exactly how long he was in the water before being rescued."
