LIVERPOOL COASTGUARD MONITOR SEACAT WITH ENGINE FAILURE

Liverpool Coastguard monitored the progress of engineers on board the Seacat ‘Rapide’ as engineers work to resolve a problem with three out of the four engines on 31 March 2001.

The Seacat was on its way from Douglas, Isle of Man, to Liverpool, with 445 people on board, when it experienced engine failure eleven miles south south east of Douglas.

Mike Roberts, Watch Officer at Liverpool Coastguard said, "We received information from ‘Rapide at around 8.30 am to report the fault. The Steam Packet Company, who own the fast craft Rapide are hoping to resolve the problem soon, after which the vessel hopes to continue its passage to Liverpool. The weather is now moderate with south-westerly force 3-4 winds and 10 mile visibility."
