COASTGUARD CALL IN BOMB EXPERTS

A device found on the shore in Jurby, Isle of Man has been dealt with by Bomb disposal experts.

The military device, described as an air-dropped American munition, was discovered on the shore at Sartfield by Department of Transport workers on 1 May 2001 (Friday) afternoon.

Colin Finney from the Coastguard said after inspecting the device bomb disposal experts were called in from the UK. The device was destroyed in-situ.

Mr. Finney said it is believed the device had floated onto the shore on the tide. He added anyone finding something suspicious on the Island’s shores should not touch it and contact the Coastguard immediately.
