MAN AIRLIFTED AFTER FALL

Holyhead Coastguard received a call at 12:15 p.m. on 8 June 2001 to a man who had been seen to fall 10ft after climbing on rocks close to the RNLI lifeboat station in Criccieth, near Pwllheli, North Wales.

Coastguard scrambled the RAF rescue helicopter from Valley to the scene. The RNLI station crew, the nearby Tremadoc Coastguard Sector Manger and the Criccieth Coastguard Rescue Team were able to arrive on scene almost immediately to assist the man.

The ambulance crew, who had been alerted earlier, along with the Coastguard and RNLI crews, were able to assess the man and get him on to a jetty in a stretcher board ready for the RAF rescue helicopter to airlift to Ysbyty Gwynedd (hospital) Bangor.

Holyhead Coastguard Watch Manger, Carl Hiltunen said, "The man was very lucky that trained personnel from both the HM Coastguard and the RNLI, who called us initially, were so very close to hand."

The man is thought to be in his 60’s and is from Sheffield; he has suffered head injuries and suspected internal and head injuries.
