Meanwhile,
the Coastguard mobile was sent to meet the informant but on arrival
there was no sign of him.
The informant then again contacted Swansea MRCC to say that it
had all been a "Wind Up" and that there was no dingy in
distress.
Perry Anderson, Watch Manager said, "The caller sounded very
convincing, and in instances of this nature we have a duty to
respond".
A local coastguard said, "This call we think is unbelievable
and at a time when coastguards have their busiest time of
year. For us, this call could have delayed us getting to the
scene of a real incident.
"The weather was west south west force 5 and the lifeboat
had to head in to this at top speed to get to the scene.
"Calls of this nature are madness. It puts the lives of all
rescue crews at risk for nothing".
He then appealed for people to, "Just stop and think, it may
be you one day that requires assistance.
"Let’s hope no one makes a hoax call when you need
us"
