FISHING VESSEL 'PARAMOUNT' TAKES IN WATER

Liverpool Coastguard received a call on VHF at 10.30 p.m. on 19 December 2001 from the Wexford registered fishing vessel 'Paramount' that operates out of Kilmore Quay. The vessel stated they were taking in water and were 15 miles south east of Port St. Mary. There were 4-crew onboard and no injuries had been sustained.

Coastguards scrambled the RAF rescue helicopter from Valley as well as launching RNLI Port St. Mary and a local fishing vessel 'Torbrach-N' to the scene.

Pumps were landed onboard to contain the ingress of water that was entering through the stern gland in order to keep the vessel afloat.

The fishing vessel was scalloping and ultimately heading for Howth in Southern Ireland for landing the catch.
