’WILLY’ SUCCESSFULLY REFLOATED

The MT `Willy' has been successfully refloated and was heading for Falmouth Docks where she will be met on arrival by representatives of the MCA and Falmouth Harbour Authorities and will undergo a rigorous inspection prior to being given permission to enter the Port.

After the vessel is safely berthed a full diving survey will be carried out to fully assess the bottom damage so that the complex task of preparing suitable supports for the vessel in dock can be commenced.

MT 'Willy'

The 3070 tonne Cypriot tanker, 'Willy', ran aground at Cawsands on the west side of Plymouth on New Year's Day. The hull was severely damaged and the engine room flooded.

During the initial incident the Tamar Coastguard Rescue Team assisted three of the non-essential crew off the ship to the shore. The crew climbed down ladders and were helped across the rocks by the Team. The other nine essential crew members, including the Master initially remained on board.
