Confederate Jeans Cloth Trousers, probably faded to this tan colour from original blue or grey colour due to oxidation of vegetable dyes used then. Much the same style as Federal trousers. Military fashion was always behind contemporary fashion. Note the button-front pockets on this particular pair. Also, although the waistband could be adjusted by a tie, this style of trouser used a wooden staple to adjust the back.
