The Costa Blanca Health Check
The Costa Blanca (White Coast) lies on the east side of Spain, within the
region of Valencia. This area, favoured for holidays and second homes by the
Spanish themselves, offers white sandy beaches, healthy Mediterranean
all-year-round sunshine, fanned by cooling sea breezes.
Known as the 'Garden of Spain', the Costa Blanca has been declared by the
World Health Organisation as almost as perfect an environment as it is possible
to find. Almost any fruit can be grown here.
Orange, Lemon and Olive Groves, Fruit Orchards and Market Gardens produce the
highest quality, fresh fruit and vegetables. These form the basis of the highly
nutritious and renowned Mediterranean diet.
Spain Welcomes You
Everywhere in Spain you will meet friendly, helpful people who value family
life. Their care for young and old shines through in their smiles. Spanish
people love life and seem to have mastered the way to live it to the full. Look
how the British smile on holiday compared with the less frequent sunny days in
the UK.
The Costa Blanca delights in over 320 days of sunshine each year. Even in the
winter the temperature rarely drops below 15 degrees Centigrade. The stress free
way of life, dry climate and natural salt lakes of the area, are beneficial for
conditions such as heart problems, rheumatism, arthritis and asthma.
Spain has reciprocal health care with the UK National health Service on the
production of a E111 form, available from any Post office in the UK. This area
is really one of the healthiest and happiest places to live, or holiday.
The sports facilities in the area are unrivalled, with 21 Golf Courses,
Tennis Courts, Horse Riding and all kinds of water sports, available throughout
the year. The beaches on the Costa Blanca have been awarded the European Blue
Flag for pollution-free bathing.
Healthy Environment
The
Costa Blanca has no heavy industry and because of this has remained a very
healthy part of Spain. Medical journals contain stories of the exceptionally
good air – specifically the air is dry and clear of pollutants. Anyone with
asthmatic conditions will immediately feel the benefit of the warm and
exceptionally dry air.
This
area between Alicante and Torrevieja is renowned for its salt extraction. There
are huge salt lakes in the area that naturally gives up salt through
evaporation. When the process is active the lakes turn pink and red in the
sunlight. The salt from the ‘snow
white’ hills in the distance against the backdrop of the mountains is very
striking. The salt extracts are transported by rail mostly underground to the
port at Torreveija.
It
is because of this production of salt that the very clean and dry atmosphere
exists all year round.
