The 464plus Disc interface upgrade

This is the second installment of the plus upgrades ot appear on the AmsTech web site. As with the 464plus memory upgrade, please thoroughly read and re-read this article before taking a screwdriver to any part of your computer, This ends the public service announcement!

Once more into the breach we go!

O.K. so if the memory upgrade all went well, you now have a 464plus with 128k. Luverly init? well wouldn’t it be nice to have nearly instant loading, yes I know you can use Cartridges, but with only about 15 titles (and only about 6 of these are any good) loading times can become a bit annoying. Well not any longer, now with this article and your soldering talent you can have an internal disc interface. All you need to buy is a 3.5" or 3" drive and all these wonderful .DSK files on the internet are yours (CPDWRITE required).

So how to do it

Open up the case of the computer once more, remove the circuit board and look at it, it should look slightly similar to fig.1 the shaded components are the one that you are going to add, easy huh?!

Fig.2 shows a close up of the area of the circuit board that we are dealing with, looks good dunnit, real easy! but don’t worry, it is realy not that hard if we take the bits one component at a time....

The components are numbered as follows...
