Dino Dig Solitaire Dvorak - a Nomic Card Game

Here are the rules for a Dvorak-based game I devised for a single player.

To play, you'll need 25 blank cards and a pen/pencil to set up the deck. You can just write the titles and the actions for action cards on them, but a drawing is nice. If you enjoy it, mail me!

DINO DIG SOLITAIRE
------------------

Similar to the 'Archaeology' Dvorak deck in theme, though not based on it, here's a variant of Dvorak for one player.

SPECIAL RULES
-------------

The rules, though based on Kevan's Dvorak, have to be changed a bit for solitaire play.

The shuffled deck is dealt face down (unexposed) into a main layout, from left to right:

Row of 5
Row of 4 on top of the first four cards
Row of 3 on top of the first three columns
Row of 2 on top of the first two columns
One card on column one.

The remaining ten cards are dealt left to right on top of the 5 columns, so you are left with:

5 columns: 7, 6, 5, 4, and 3 cards.

It should look like this:

A turn involves turning over one unexposed card to expose it. Player may then play any exposed action card.

THINGS
------

Things are divided into two types: Bones and what for the want of a better word, I'm calling Obstacles. When exposed, Bones can be played into the Dino Skeleton layout at the top of the main layout: Head above column 1, Claws above column 2, Ribs above column 3, Legs above column 4 and Tail above the last column. When this skeleton is completed, the game is won!

BONES

- Head
- 2 x Claw
- Ribs
- 2 x Leg
- Tail

OBSTACLES

These can only be moved or removed when an Action card allows it.

- 7 x Earth
- 3 x Boulder

ACTIONS
-------

When actions are played, they are moved to the discard pile. The card below them is available to be exposed, but is not exposed automatically.

- 2 x Spade: Remove one Earth (to discard pile)
- Pitchfork: Remove one Earth //I got bored of drawing spades :)
- Crowbar: Remove one Boulder
- Bulldozer: Remove two Earth or Boulders (or one Earth and one Boulder, or just one of either)
- 2 x Archaeologist: Move one Earth to another Pile

LANDSLIDE!

Landslide is a bit different to the other Actions. As soon as it is exposed, it takes effect. Its recurrence has a major effect on the game - the player may grow to loathe it, but it can be put to good use!

- Landslide!: As soon as this card is exposed, move all exposed cards to the discard pile, shuffle, and redeal onto all stacks.

So the discard pile should be shuffled and then dealt left to right onto each column one at a time until the cards run out. Dino bones already found and placed onto the skeleton layout need not be redealt.

ENDGAME

Either the dino skeleton is completed (hurrah!) or no further actions can be played (boo!).

I've played this a few times, and it works quite nicely as a mix of luck and skill. Once Landslide is in play, tracking it and saving it up to use to your advantage becomes a crucial skill. It's easy to let that first pile grow very deep, so watch it!
