Q) Where exactly are the Caves? A) Not surprisingly, this is the most common question that visitors to the website ask. After much deliberation, it has been decided by the Friends of the Caves of Crowborough that the exact location of the Caves should not be published - for the time being. We appreciate that this may seem frustrating to those who are keen to find out more about the Caves, but in their present state, they are very unsafe to the general public (and even experienced cavers).
The campaign to get the Caves re-opened includes plans to make them safe, so if you are really interested in seeing the Caves, please join the Friends of
the Caves of Crowborough.
A) Currently, the Caves are closed to the general public. The Friends of
the Caves of Crowborough are actively promoting the re-opening of the caves.
A) The last subterranean survey of the Caves regrettably indicated that many of the Cave chambers had been blocked. In others, the water level readings show that the local water table has swollen. Secondary sources indicate that the Caves were far-reaching in the nineteenth century, but their current state is hard to evaluate. We urge all visitors to join the Friends of
the Caves of Crowborough and help campaign for a new survey.
A) CAVE-safe are a highly respected caving safety company. They have agreed to donate 2 per cent of all profits to help the campaign to get the Caves re-opened. We are delighted to have a company of their repute support our campaign. To visit CAVE-safe, please click here.
