Seated Nude
Pablo Picasso - 1910, Oil on canvas 92 x 73 cm.
Picasso painted many different canvas of the 'Seated Nude' that this one was complete. The painting is treated in an Analytical way, but the painting is not so severely broken as many other analytic works. The difference is that the facets do not splay out in an uncontrolled way and are therefore isolated to the figure and the background separately. The figure is seated on what looks to be an armchair, with the armrest being noticeable in the bottom left-hand corner. The painting suggests that the women has her left hand on her right leg and her right arm bent at the elbow, possibly propping up her breasts or just placed across her midsection. In the background to the left of the figure, are horizontal planes mixed with diagonal planes and lines, these maybe books or objects?
