Portrait of Ambroise Vollard
Pablo Picasso - 1910, Oil on canvas 92 x 65 cm.
The 'Portrait of Ambroise Vollard' is typical of 'Analytical Cubism' the portrait is broken into facets the torso and background are treated as one. The colouration is the same, a buildup of greens and browns with the face being different, warmer, yellows and warm browns with the white edges representing Vollard's distinctive hair. The facets around the head get closer and smaller as they get towards the centre this, giving a sense of perspection, making Vollard look as If he were placed at the end of a corridor and painted from a distance.
