  • How this happened

This is according to Kev "It is a scientifically proven fact that all good things in life can be achieved in pubs, as represented by the equation P=RF2 (Pub = Regular Fun Squared). It was in strict adherence to this law that on a cold Sunday in Easter 2002, In Leytonstone (aka arsehole of the universe), three young men - Ian (guitars), Paul (bass) and Kevin (vocals) - decided to form a band. Nursing their "Hair of the Dog" pints the three launched a strategy to hit the London scene with a combination of catchy rock 'n' roll and sweetly melodic post-rock, and Dakar Rally was born. However the path to rock stardom did not run smoothly, and in the summer of that year Ian left to take up residence in Edinburgh, and Stewart, the forth Rallyer on drums left the British Isles completely for the arms of a Spanish temptress in Madrid. The future of the band hung in the balance as new members came and went, and the comment "I thought you had to be famous before you went all Spinal Tap" was liberally banded about. However late in the autumn of 2003, salvation finally arrived. A sturdy young chap by the name of Rob was convinced to take up the job of guitarist, lured by the promise of a bottle of whiskey, an eighth of skunk and groupies (all of which he claims he is still waiting for). And when, early in 2004 Andy "Mary" Law (the only totally blind drummer known to be currently working the London scene) was added to the line-up, Dakar Rally were once again back on track and headed for, er, Camden probably."
