I met Hubert on the street in New York City around the corner from my office.
It happened about the time Remus was preparing for his trip. As I came around the corner
I saw Hubert working on his BMW GS w/ sidecar right on the street. The bike was tipped over sideways with the sidecar up in
the air. I took one look and said to myself, I've got to meet this guy.
The bike looked newly restored. I got to the meat of the subject right away
.
What are your travel plans?
As it turned out he also planned to ride to the arctic circle. But Hubert, an experienced LD Rider, had his trip set for February
(what?). Thats right, his plans are to ride up to the arctic circle in the middle of winter!
A good part of the way he and his wife will be traveling on frozen rivers. It turns out that this man has been testing his
skills with this kind
of adventure riding for most of his adult life. I called Remus right away, thinking that he, too, had to meet this guy. As
things happened, Remus was at that moment coming out of a shoe store across the street from where Hubert was working on his
hack. Tell me the world is not small!!
Last week I e-mailed Hubert to see how his plans were coming along. I asked if he was shipping the bike to Canada to start.
Below is his reply.
I will truck the sidecar to Yellowstone and drive from there (2700 miles)
Heres a couple of images from Christmas day and after on our way to Vermont.
GOOD LUCK TO THE KRIEGEL
