Research is being undertaken into aircraft that came down in
Scapa Flow, Orkney and a new group has been formed on the
island called `Aviation Research Group of Orkney & Shetland
or ARGOS for short. This group is headed by Kevin Heath from
Stromness, who for years has dived shipwrecks and has recently
become interested in the unchartered aircraft of Orkney & Scapa
Flow, it is hoped to document all these for posterity and possibly
open or contribute to a museum on the islands.

`MUDVILLE HEIGHTS`

MUDVILLE HEIGHTS.

This  book was written about the  US Navy at Dunkeswell,Devon
and the title comes from a nickname given to the airfield there in 1943.

The book is a history of this US Navy anti-submarine base in WW2,
and many anecdotes collected from ex-crew members who served
there with PB4Y-1 Liberators. It also contains appendices of losses,
U-boat attacks & successes, along with a `Roll of Honour`
to all those killed during ops & training flights from 1943-46.

Many photos have been gathered from archives and private

collections and depict all aspects of life on and off the base,

but it is to relate that some of these pics came from men no

longer with us, all I can hope for now is to honour their memory.

ON GOING RESEARCH
At present I am researching for a new book on accidents
around the Scottish Isles & Hebrides. This is to be another
joint venture, this time with my good friend Peter Dobson
of Workington, who is better known throughout the aviation
world for his research into aircraft accidents around Cumbria,
the Lake District and Western Pennine chain of hills.

Research began 3 years ago with sparse details of just over
30 aircraft,we have now amassed a list of over 100 aircraft
to be covered in detail, together with an appendix listing
of many others.

As previously mentioned research is ongoing and information
on any aircraft lost on and around the Isles & Hebrides
would be very much appreciated.Contact either Myself at:
