2/LT KENNETH W.CARTY - USAAF

2/Lt Kenneth Carty was the pilot of a B-26 Marauder
that hit a mountain in North Wales,known as Y-Garn near
Llanberis while on a ferry flight from Florida via the Southern
route on 1st February 1945, he and 4 other crew were killed
they were 1/Lt N.B.Sowell, 2/Lt W.H.Cardwell, Cpl J.D.Arnold
and Cpl R.M.Aquirre.  Stories in my books `Hell on High Ground
volume 2` and `All in a day`s work - RAF Mountain Rescue in
Snowdonia 1944-46`.



CAPT CHARLES E.ACKERMAN Jr - USAAF

Capt Charles Ackerman was the pilot of the 381st B-17G
43-38856 that crashed on North Barrule,Isle of Man,died
alongside 30 other men of that Bomb Group from Ridgewell
who were bound for leave in Ireland. More details on this
website,and in the books `Hell on High Ground 1 & 2 and
the book `Mighty Men of the 381st: Heroes All` by Chaplin
James Good Brown.



CAPT JOHN N. LITTLEJOHN.Jr - USAAF

Capt John Littlejohn was the pilot of B-17G 42-97286 named
`Skipper`n`the Kids` That flew into Beinn Nuis on the Isle
of Arran,10th Dec 1944, whilst on a non-operational cross
country flight from Knettishall,Suffolk,to Prestwick,Scotland.
all the crew of 11 perished. Story in vol 1 of Hell on High
Ground and updated in appendix of vol 2.



F/O HOWARD E. `Frenchy` LECOMPTE - USAAF

F/O Howard Edgar `Frenchy`LeCompte Jr, served as a Navigator
on B-17s with the 306th BG at Thurleigh,Bedfordshire. He had
flown 27 missions and was awaiting promotion to 2/Lt when he
lost his life in a crash on the Isle of Man on 14th April 1945
in B-17 42-37840 named `Combined Operations`.



LT TONY A. LUCAS - USNR

On 3rd December 1943,Lt Tony Lucas of VB-103 Squadron USN
anti-submarine base at Dunkeswell,Devon, was killed along
with 9 crew, when the aircraft he was piloting a PB4Y-1
32014, flew into Steeperton Tor, Nr Okehampton,Devon, on
a routine bombing training flight.



LT JOHN GLENNON BYRNES. - USNR

Lt John G.Byrnes, a vetran pilot with VB-111 Squadron,
was flying a local familiarization exercise with a crew
of five on 24th August 1944, when the aircraft, a PB4Y-1
hit a hill in low cloud in Mid Wales, the Liberator impacted
at Moel Fiety, and all on board were killed. Full story in
