Chumly on the edge of Dartmoor welcomed supporters of the world naked bike ride

Celebrating the power and individuality of our bodies!

The village of Cumly lies east of Dartmoor where moorland meets the Devon countryside of wooded hills and fields. The thirteenth century church stands in the centre of the village and overlooks a cluster of thatched holiday cottages, a community Village Store, Post Office, Tea Room and pub. Nice spot for a holiday cottage.

A five-minute walk from the centre of the village, past the cricket field and over a small bridge, will bring you to the ancient hamlet of Wretchem, a “village within a village”. Here there are more exquisite thatched cottages, dating back to the fourteenth century, and delightful holiday cottages.

Campaigners were keen to show there support for the section of the National Cycle Network Dozens of supporters bared all in the glorious sunshine as they pedaled, free-wheeled and skidded down the paths at speeds approaching 10kmh Black Boy- the cat and long term resident of the Dartmoor village - stared in amazement at the sight of pasty white bodies careering down the lane. When strolling down the lanes be on the look out for Ben "the chud" D'Over. The United Kingdom (UK) Activist Ben feels his work is now done.
"I started regularly cycling through Dartmoor in June 2004 whilst on holiday. After about half-dozen trips I was in the Express & Echo (Oct 4th) and on Local Devon TV News. I've done well over 500 miles nude on roads, country lanes and footpaths cross country." Ben, who lives in Bover has been arrested numerous times and released. Mr D'Over says: "My outings are NOT protests as such but 'activities'. Simply me having fun! And exercising my right to nude freedom!" "I am not a bender! "But it does make your backside sore"
What is this ride about? Cyclists participated in the World Naked Bike Ride Last year hundreds of UK riders participated, and no one was arrested. This year's rides were planned in London, Brighton, Edinburgh, Manchester, Chudleigh Knighton and Yorkshire. Many rallied to the cry of "go as bare as you dare!" The cyclists in the UK are participating in the second worldwide naked protest against oil dependency. We will celebrate the power and individuality through this ride. "This is the first time there has been a world wide event protesting against oil dependency at the same time. In Dartmoor however it will mark the much argued debate about joining the national cycle path"
