SEATON TRAM STATION.

SEATON is a seaside resort in East Devon.  The trams travel through the Axe valley, along side the River Axe, for 3 miles to the inland town of Colyton.

En route, there are 2 nature reseves, where you can see many species of wading birds.

TRAM STOP AT COLYTON

Colyton town.

Colyton is a very old town, situated in East Devon, where the river valleys of the Coly and Axe meet.

Hardware store.

The streets are in a circular pattern of Saxon design...the centre of the town being a conservation area, where you will find little stone cottages, as well as substantial houses.

Colyton's St. Andrews Church dates back to the 12th century

The Lantern tower. (S2)

The lantern tower is one of only 3 in the country, and was added to the church in the 15th century, greatly financed by profits from the wool trade.

Lampost in Colyton.

Rather unusual and

RED SEATON TRAM.

The journey takes 25 minutes, on this narrow gauge (2' 9")purpose built track.

In 1969, Claude Lane purchased the Seaton to Colyton section of railway line.

He opened the first section of tramway in August 1970. He died in 1971, but the tramway continued with the final section opening in 1980.

PASSING PLACE.

As it is only a single track, there are 2 or 3 passing loops, for when the trams meet en route.

Colyton Post Office.

A very pretty and quiet town, where the Seaton trams run to.

Also, there are many thatched cottages.
