16th March 2003. Down Grange 4 Basingstoke 2

This was another very good performance by Down Grange. Playing without Tom, Matthew, Marco and Robert a few changes were required. Jack played at left back for the first time this season and Daniel came in on the right side of midfield. The game started badly with Basingstoke scoring in the first minute. It could have been even worse but a great shot was brilliantly saved by Adam. Down Grange came storming back and were soon level when Ben scored after a fine ball from David. It was a very even and well fought first half but it was Down Grange who took the advantage just before half time when Ben scored his second. Basingstoke had many good attacks but the Down Grange defence played extremely well to keep them out. The second half was more of the same with chances at both ends. Adam made another good save before Ben completed

his hat-trick with 15 minutes to go. Basingstoke made it 3-2 with just 5 minutes on the clock and they did everything they could to find the equaliser. In the dying minutes a long ball from Michael Halls was picked up by Ben who went on to score his fourth. This ended the scoring in a very, very good match and the final score was 4-2. This was an excellent performance, which maintains Down Grange chance of the league title. Hatch Warren have to drop points but they still have a few difficult games left and if we can win our final 5 games it will really put the pressure on Hatch Warren. There were many good individual performances but the man of the match went to Ben for his 4 goals and tireless running.
