I have been attempting to make a gold chain tube on and off for some time and these are my results. I have coloured some to look like pearls, silver and gold. You can see the effect of the gold chain here.
Please read the text file included in the zip for each tube as this will give the settings required for each tube.
When using these tubes at less than 100% it is worth using either the sharpen or unsharp mask feature in Paintshop.

I made an error in saving one of the tubes but thought the effect was quite good, rather like a ribbon around a birthday cake, so waste not want not :o)
