There was an Old Lady Who Lived in a Shoe

By doing this tutorial you agree to my terms of use.

For this tutorial you will need - PSP 7
and my selections - available here
and this tile, right click and save as

I've been wanting to try this for some time and the latest Prestigious Tutorial Special gave me the chance to try.

Remember to save you work often. I am not in the habit of giving this reminder in my tutorials, this is something you should do automatically :o) Say's she who is always getting caught by a dreaded PSP freeze.

OK, lets crack on.

Open the tile.jpg to use later on as a pattern fill. Not too sure on how to do this? Click here

We are now going to give our shoe house some shading by using the paint tool and then applying a gaussian blur.

14. Make the shoe layer active. Create a new layer naming it shading1. With the paintbrush tool, change the hardness to 50, foreground #543010, if you have used a different colour for your shoe this will be 8 less than the number in the light column in your colour palette , paint some shape to the shoe as shown. Bring the lightness of your colour down by 5, #4B2B0F, and paint over as shown, staying on the same layer. Bring the colour down by another 5, #42260E. Using this same shade paint some detail on the tongue of the boot and around the eyelets. I have intentionally gone well over the edge of the boot to make sure when the blur is applied it covers all the boot. Effects/Blur/Gaussian blur with a radius of 8.  Selections/Load from disc, open shoe.sel. Selections/Invert, delete. This will do away with the edges. Ctrl+D.

15. Make a new layer naming it shading2. Change the foreground colour to #703F14, this is an increase of 12 to the light in the colour palette. Paint a highlight on the top of the toe. Change the colour to #834B19, this is an increase of 12, add more to the highlight. Effects/Blur/Gaussian blur with a radius of 8.  Selections/Load from disc, open shoe.sel. Selections/Invert, delete. Ctrl+D.

16. By clicking the glasses in the layer palette make it so that the shoe, shading1 & shading2 layers are the only one's visible. Marge layers visible. On the merged layer lock the transparency. Effects/3D effects/Cut out at the shown setting. Unlock the transparency. Effects/Noise/Add 5% uniform. Bring all layers in to view.

17. Make the door back layer active. Selections/Load from disc, open the door back.sel. Change the foreground colour to #1F1F1F, paint in some highlight to the doorway. While still selected apply the same gaussian blur. Add noise at the same setting, repeat the noise on the door layer. Ctrl+D.

There you have your shoe, now we'll go on to do the old lady
