Appliqué Napkin
For this tutorial you will
need PSP7, trial available here
Super BladePro, trial available here
My Super BladePro embroidery preset available
here
this needs to be extracted to your Super BladePro
Environments and Textures folder.
And if you wish to use it, my circled line, available
here,
extract the sld file to your PSP Styled Lines folder. By
doing this tutorial you agree to my terms
of use. |
I would like to thank two very special friends for
encouraging me and for trying out the different presets prior to
this one, you always give my tuts a workout and encourage me, you
know who you are.................thankyou :o)
Remember to save you work often. I
am not in the habit of giving this reminder in my tutorials, this
is something you should do automatically :o) Say's she who is
always getting caught by a dreaded PSP freeze *vbg*
1. Open a new image 400x 400. Set the
foreground colour to what ever you want your napkin to be, I
used #E3BBA7, null the background. With the draw tool
,
single line, width 35, set to circles-di, antialias checked.
Draw a line down the right hand side of your canvas, because
the width is fairly deep do not start and finish too close
to the edge. Duplicate the layer, then rotate to
the right by 90 degrees and line it up with the bottom
circle. Merge visible. |
|
2. Ctrl+A (select
all), Ctrl+F (float), double click the selection tool
to open the selection area window. Check surround current
area, OK. You should now have a square selection. Create a
new layer and flood fill with your napkin colour. Ctrl+D
(select none).
|
3. Make the merged layer active, the
circled line, with the magic wand click the transparent
area, selections, modify, expand by 1. Make your square
layer active. With the eraser
erase the edge of the square that goes beyond the circled
edge. Crtl+D. Merge visible. Rename this layer napkin. |

|
4. Duplicate the napkin layer and
rename it edging. Ctrl+A, Ctrl+F, selections, modify,
contract by 6, delete. Ctrl+D. In the layer palette make the
napkin layer invisible
.
We only need the rounded part of the edge, so with the
eraser erase the straight edges graduating at the rounded
corner. Ctrl+A, Ctrl+F. Effects, plugin filters, Flaming
Pear, Super BladePro, apply my embroidery setting. Ctrl+D.
Bring the napkin layer back into view
. |

|
|
5. Working on the napkin layer,
effects, 3D effects, cutout at these settings. Make sure
you use the same colour as your napkin for the fill of the
cutout, the shadow colour will need to be a few shades
darker of your fill.

|
6. Crtl+A, Ctrl+F,
Ctrl+Shft+F, this will select, float and defloat the
napkin. Create a new layer, with the airbrush
at the shown settings using a lighter shade of the napkin,
I used #F4E3DA, dab some colour on to the napkin, this
does not need to be too dense. Effects, blur, motion blur,
angle 0 pixels 15. While still selected create a new
layer, repeat the airbrush and motion blur but change the
angle to 90. Ctrl+D. Merge layers visible, rename the
merged layer to napkin.
|
| 7. Create a new layer. We will now
make some decorations for the napkin. You can either draw
your own or use a dingbat. I used the Floral Design
dingbat available here.
If you are using this dingbat I chose A, size 36,
antialias & floating checked. Apply my embroidery
preset, if the stitching does not
look right I have included 2 bmp files for the preset,
while in SBP click bmp and load the stitch2.bmp, this will
give a different direction to the stitching. Repeat
the dingbat or give more detail on separate layers
applying the embroidery preset to each layer. When you are
happy with your detail you can merge all layers visible
and save as a tube or in PSP format or you can go one step
further.
|

|
8. Make the napkin layer invisible
and merge layers visible. You
should be left with two layers, the napkin and the merged
dingbat/detail layer. Bring the napkin layer back in
to view, this should be at the bottom of your layer
palette. Duplicate the napkin layer, bring the opacity down to
about 70. With the deformation tool
bring in the right and bottom edges and by holding Shft
move in the bottom left and right corners. Effects, 3D
effects, drop shadow, vertical 1, horizontal -1, opacity
46, blur 8.6. Duplicate the napkin layer again, bring down
the opacity to about 80 and repeat the deformation and
drop shadow. After doing this I noticed the flowers looked
too sharp against the napkin so I brought the opacity of
the layer down to 85. Merge layers visible and save as a
tube or in PSP format. |

imagination run wild with this tutorial and that you have
fun playing :o) I had a little play and came up with this
background, if you would like to use it, right click and
save to your own hard drive. This is my gift to you,
please do not claim it as your own.
