For this tutorial you will need PSP7 and my clock
decoration shape and my sculpture preset, here.
Making the Face
1. Open a new image 400x600. Create a new layer naming
it rim. With the preset shape tool set to ellipse, width 8, antialias checked,
foreground set to white and background nulled, start at 100, 50 and draw out the
ellipse to 310, 260.

Effects/Texture effects/Sculpture and apply my
clock preset.
2. Create a new layer naming it face.
With the preset shape tool, foreground and background set to #F5E2CF, ellipse,
width 0, antialias checked starting at 106, 56 and draw out to 303, 253.

3. Create a new layer naming it plan. All
we are doing here is creating a guide to place the numerals and decoration. With
the draw tool set to single line, width 1, antialias checked, any colour that
you like, it is only a guide, starting at 205, 50 draw down to 205, 260. In the
layer palette, right click the plan layer and duplicate. Image/Rotate to the
left by 90 degrees, uncheck all layers. In the layer palette click on the
glasses of all the layers apart from plan and duplicate of plan, so that your
two lines are all that is visible, layers/merge visible. In the layer palette
right click the merged layer and duplicate, Image,Rotate to the left by 30
degrees, uncheck
all layers. Duplicate this layer and rotate again by 30 degrees. With just
your line layers visible, layers/merge visible. Bring all the other layers back
in to view.

4. Create a new layer naming it numerals.
With the text tool type XII, colour black, I used Times New Roman, size 16,
antialias and floating both checked. Place it so that it is central to the top
middle line, selections/select none. Staying on the same layer use the text tool
and type I, while still floating rotate to the right by 30 degrees, uncheck all layers.
With the text tool type III, while still selected rotate to the right by 60
degrees, selections/select none. Repeat the text tool typing the numbers and
increasing the rotation by 30 degrees each time until you have all the numerals
in place.

5. Create a new layer naming it deco.
With the preset shape tool, select my Di1 shape, retain style, start at 150, 100
and draw out to 260, 210. Selections/Select all, with the selection tool click
on the decoration to select and flood fill with the Metallic gradient, style
linear, angle 140, repeats 2. Selections/select none.
6. Create a new layer naming it hand.
With the preset shapes tool, ellipse, antialias checked, foreground and
background set to black, starting at 196, 146 draw out the ellipse to 214, 164.

Create a new layer naming it hand2. With the draw
tool foreground black, background nulled, single line, #1 solid, width 2,
starting at 260, 80 draw out the line to 205, 155. Create a new layer naming it
hand3, with the preset shape tool set to ellipse, width 2, antialias checked,
foreground black background nulled, start at 235, 98 and draw out the ellipse to
249, 112. In the layer palette click on hand2 to make active, magnify your image
and with the eraser erase the part of the line that goes through the circle we
have just made.

In the layer palette click the glasses on all the
layers except the 3 hand layers, merge visible. Rename the merged layer to h
hand and bring all the other layers back into view.
7. Create a new layer naming it hand.
With the draw tool with the previous settings, start at 103, 146 and draw to
205, 155. Create a new layer naming it hand2, with the preset shapes tool set to
ellipse, width 2, antialias checked, foreground black background nulled, start
at 140, 141 and draw the ellipse out to 154, 155. Magnify your image, in the
layer palette click the hand layer to make active and erase the part of the line
that goes through the circle we have just made. In the layer palette click the
glasses of all the layers except hand and hand2 so that the minute hand is all
that is visible, merge visible and rename to m hand. Bring all the other layers
back in to view. In the layer palette drag the m hand layer below the h hand
layer.
8. In the layer palette click the h hand
layer to make active. Effects/3D effects/Inner bevel, use the round preset
changing the width to 6 and smoothness 20. Now make the m hand layer active,
apply the same inner bevel but change the direction to 0. Still on the m hand
layer, Effects/3D effects/Drop shadow, vertical 2, horizontal 7, opacity 68,
blur 3.7. In the layer palette click the h hand layer to make active, Effects/3D
effects/Drop shadow, change the vertical to 0 and horizontal to -5.
9. Remember the lines we made as a guide
for the numerals, it should be the merged layer, this can be deleted. In the
layer palette drag the face layer down below the rim layer. Still on the face
layer, Effects/3D effects/Inner bevel, use the pillow preset but change the
elevation to 30. Selections/Select all, with the selection tool click on the
face to float, Effects/3D Effects/Cut out, vertical and horizontal 1, opacity
75, blur 11.3, colour black no fill. Selections/Select none. It is important
that you remember to float the face otherwise when you apply the cutout the face
will disappear. This is what you should now have. Click on the glasses of layer1
to make invisible and merge visible renaming this merged layer to face.
