PSP8 Tea Pot House Pixel Tut

This tutorial has been written using PSP8 but should work in PSP7. Please take the time to read my terms.

Rather than me giving screen shots showing how many pixels please drag this image to your work area to use as a template.

I am no means an expert when it comes to pixels, but I wanted to give them a go and have a play.
I will try to explain exactly how I shaded the image but we all have our own method
so my instructions are only a guidance. You may prefer to stay on the one layer, I prefer layers.

Dodge Tool Settings

Shape - round
Hardness - 0
Step - 25
Density - 100
Thickness - 100

Opacity - 40

Burn Tool Settings

Shape - round

The more you go over the same area with the dodge/burn tool, the lighter/darker the effect will become.

1. Image, increase colour depth to 16 million colours. Layers - Promote background to layer and rename base. With the magic wand , tolerance 0, feather 0, add, select the white areas of the image and delete so you only have the outlines. Ctrl+D.

At this point you can carry on with the tut or you can go round the image with the paint brush, size 1, to give the image your own colours. For the tutorial I will give the colours I used, if you have changed yours you will need to use a lighter shade of those you have chosen for the base image. I tried using a light shade for the fill but found the burn tool worked best with darker colours.

2. With the magic wand select the inside of the tea pot. Create a new layer. Flood fill with #AF6518. Ctrl+D. With the dodge tool, size 45, put in a couple of highlights. Reduce the size to 25 and repeat the highlight down the middle of the ones just done. With the burn tool, size 40, shade the sides and the top edge. Reduce the size to 10 and shade the area around the door.

2. Go back to the base layer. With the magic wand click inside the lid. Create a new layer. Flood fill with the same colour. Ctrl+D. With the dodge tool, size 45, make a highlight. Reduce to size 25 and repeat the highlight. Reduce to size 10 and highlight to knob of the lid. With the burn tool, size 25 shade the sides of the lid and the left side of the knob.

3. Go back to the base layer. With the magic wand click inside the spout. Create a new layer. Flood fill with the same colour. Ctrl+D. With the dodge tool, size 30, make a highlight. Reduce to size 20 and repeat the highlight. With the burn tool, size 25, darken the sides of the spout. Reduce to size 2, opacity 100, make a lip on the spout. increase to size 8, opacity 35, go over the same area.

4.  Go back to the base layer. With the magic wand click inside the handle. Create a new layer. Flood fill with the same colour. Ctrl+D. With the dodge tool, size 10, make a  couple of highlights. With the burn tool, size 14, shade the handle.

5. Go back to the base layer. With the magic wand click inside the top of the door. Create a new layer. Flood fill with #8C5D33. Ctrl+D. Effects - 3D Effects - Cutout at the setting given.

6. Go back to the base layer. With the magic wand, add mode, click each of the out 2 segments of the door. Flood fill with the same colour. Apply the same cutout.

7. Go back to the base layer. With the magic wand, add mode, click inside each of the panels of the door. Crtl+D. With the paint brush , size 1, foreground colour #7D502F, paint some lines down the panels. I zoomed in to 400% to see better.

If you're like me and can't paint in a straight line, click to dab the first spot of paint then hold shift, move the curser to where you want to finish and click.

Change the foreground colour to #6E472A, paint some more lines, some overlapping, some next to the lighter line. Change the colour to #623F26 and paint some more lines.
