Easy Xmas Stocking

By doing this tutorial you agree to my terms of use.

For this tutorial you will need - PSP 7
Eye Candy version 3,  available free here

1. Open a new image 250x400 with a transparent background. Set the foreground to black and the background to white. Create a new raster layer naming it top. Use the draw tool , freehand line, width 2, #1 solid, antialias & close path checked, draw the top of your stocking in the top half of your image.

2. In the layer palette, click layer1 to make active, create a new raster layer naming it sock. Null the foreground and set the background to red, I used #CF271A. Draw the shape of the sock. If you have followed the directions the sock layer will be below the top layer.

3. Click on the top layer to make active. Null the background colour and set the foreground to black. With the draw tool, change the width to 4 and uncheck close path, draw some lines on the top of the stocking. In the layer palette, click the padlock on the top layer.

This will lock the transparency of the layer allowing us to use the airbrush tool so that it paints only the graphic not the entire layer and will allow us to use the cutout effect without losing our graphic.

4. Use the airbrush tool set to a light blue, I used #ABBAF3, paint some shape on the top.

Shape - round
Size - 13
Hardness -0
Opacity - 16
Step -9
Density - 15

Effects/3D effects/cutout.

Vertical -2
Horizontal 2
Opacity 92
Blur 20
Colour black

In the layer palette unlock the transparency of the layer. Effects/Plugin filters/Eye Candy 3/Jiggle at these settings.

5. Make the sock layer active. Lock the transparency of the layer and apply the cutout changing the blur to 45. Effects/noise/add at 8% uniform. Unlock the transparency.

6.  Create a new layer naming it hook. Set the foreground to red and null the background. With the draw tool, set to freehand, width 8, #1 solid, antialias checked, draw a hook. Lock the transparency of the layer, Effects/3D effects/Cutout at the same setting but change the blur to 7.5.

Merge all layers visible and either export as a tube or save in PSP format.
